before officially departing this album era ( ;) ) i thought it would be cute to release an instrumental edition of 'ANIMAL ANIMAL / lost ny' featuring vocal-less versions of all 23 tracks. a couple vocal textures were left in when i felt like the vocals were adding an 'instrumental' texture, but no words! write your own words, maybe! music to study and freak out to!

i always spend a lot of time on vocals and lyrics. muting them feels exciting and freeing. it reveals hidden textures in the music, like moments of accidental noise that i probably should have cleaned up better. or a synth layer i forgot was there. the most exciting part is hearing the contributions of my instrumental collaborators in their full, unencumbered form.

this version feels like a score, a soundtrack you can throw on and let yourself be transported. fill in the silence with your own story.
